Founded: 1991
Founder: Mike Ternasky, Danny Way and Colin McKay
Location: San Diego, CA

Plan B was founded in 1991 in San Diego, California by Mike Ternasky, Danny Way and Colin McKay, with the help of Steve Rocco and Rodney Mullen.

It was originally part of the Dwindle/World Industries Family, which was owned by Rocco (World Industries). World did their distribution while they established themselves in the beginning. The idea was that they would create a super-team of elite pros, while turning its back on the stale commercial, corporate skate industry of the time.

Plan B’s original team was a powerhouse, that included legendary skates like owners Danny Way and Colin McKay, of course, plus riders like Pat Duffy, Sal Barbier and Rick Howard. Their first video Questionable is still a classic to this day, showcasing the techinical side of street that was still in its infancy. It was shot by Mike Ternasky, who was a filmmaker, which made it stand apart from other videos of the time. It wasn’t just skate parts, it was personal story vignettes on each rider.

When Mike Ternasky died, the brand went on hiatus for a short period, but came back strong despite his untimely death. With Danny Way and Colin McKay at the helm, Plan B went on to become one of the most legendary brands in skateboarding.

In the 2000s, the brand went through a major overhaul, that took them to even further success. They are still a thriving brand in the skateboard industry to this day.
